An Easter Surprise
20 years ago I was asked to play flute for a production called the Dance of Life. This work was devised by Pat Ahern to celebrate the Millenium. Ahern has staged many pageants and is happy working on a large scale. This work was no different with nearly over a thousand participant including a 800 strong choir, actors, dancers and orchestra. The score was composed by Tralee based musician Aidan O'Carroll and included arrangements of choral hymns. A three hour production meant this was a big undertaking for him and the orchestra. It was a great experience and the camaraderie if the cast was wonderful. I never expected to see this again. It was a delight to go down memory lane and remember musicians who had passed away including Sean Brogan and Dick Shanahan.
