The Second Part of the Weekend

On the Saturday night the Handed Down Series in Scartaglin came to a close with a wonderful lineup of performers and speakers. Ann and Nicky McAulliffe were the special guests and the attendees applauded them for their recent receipt of the Gradam Cheoil Lifetime Achievement Award. They played a wonderful set with Ellen O'Leary on tin whistle (daughter of the renowned Johnny O'Leary). They also shared the stage with 4 young musicians from the area. The speaker on the evening was Padraig McMathuna son of the collector and RTE Radio Presenter Ciaran MacMathuna. Padraig shared recordings his father had made of Sliabh Luachra musicians at home and in the States. The organisers of this series are now busy making preparations for the World Fiddle Day on May 18th, 2019.
