Susan works across music education, workshops, and mentoring, drawing on her experience as a performer, ethnomusicologist, and lecturer. Her teaching connects traditional music practice, music studies, and creative technologies, encouraging learners to engage with music as both an artistic and cultural practice.

She began teaching at the Kerry School of Music in 1996, working with students on the concertina and the flute. She later established her TuneSchool in Tralee, where she shares her passion for classical and Irish traditional music with learners of all ages.
Teaching & Expertise
Susan has experience teaching across a wide range of musical areas, including traditional music, music studies, composition and arrangement, music theory, and music technology. She currently lectures in music at Munster Technological University.

Workshops & Mentoring
Susan delivers keynote lectures, workshops, and mentoring sessions for musicians, students, and cultural organisations. Her talks and workshops explore topics such as traditional music practice, cultural heritage, and the documentation of living traditions.
She has also served as an adjudicator and results authenticator for music examinations and competitions, and represents Munster Technological University on the Music Generation Board, supporting the development of music education initiatives.

Some workshops and courses are developed through the Living Tradition Lab, exploring traditional music practice, cultural heritage, and creative documentation.
